What is hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is an important surgical method in solving the problems of hair loss, thinning and balding of the scalp due to reasons such as race, age, gender, hormones, nutrition, genetic and environmental factors, various diseases occurring on the scalp, psychological disorders and intense stress; It is the process of taking a person’s own hair follicles from a certain area and placing them on sparse or balding areas of the scalp. How to do hair transplantation? The first criterion required for a healthy result in hair transplantation is; It is the planning and development of a personalized treatment by a detailed examination by the physician. The second important criterion is; It is performed by an experienced specialist doctor and team in a sterile and hygienic office or hospital environment. Planting under these conditions has no harmful side effects. Anesthesia: Hair transplantation can be performed using only local anesthesia, or sedatives can be used along with anesthetic drugs. By determining the individual anesthesia dose criteria by the physician, the procedure can be performed painlessly during the hair transplantation process. Obtaining and transplanting hair follicles: First of all, measurements are made in the patient’s area to be transplanted, and detailed discussions are held between the doctor and the patient to decide how much hair density should be in the transplantation area. In normal and healthy scalp, the number of hair follicles in 1 cm2 is called hair density (density), and an average person has 80-100 hair follicles in 1 cm2. For a healthy result in hair transplantation, it is generally necessary to obtain 60 or more hairs per cm2 in the transplanted area. Accordingly, after the physician decides on the amount of hair density with the patient, the roots to be used in hair transplantation are generally collected from the nape of the person or from another part of the body deemed appropriate by the physician and transplanted to the sparse and balding area with a technique appropriate to the individual. Hair transplantation takes approximately 4-6 hours.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Technique:
It is the most widely used hair transplantation technique in the world and in our country; It is also applied in our office. It is a technique that involves removing micro hair follicle bundles called Follicular Unit (FU) on the scalp one by one through microsurgical procedures and placing them in the desired area. After the area where the roots will be removed is determined, the procedure begins with shaving (or without shaving) according to the doctor’s decision. Local anesthesia is applied to the area where the roots will be removed by the specialist physician. The roots, which are then loosened by the micromotor, are removed using a tweezer-like medical tool called micropunch. When the root harvesting process is completed, thin channels are opened with a Sapphire Blade, starting from the area where the hairline is determined or another area deemed appropriate by the physician, and the roots are transplanted. Thus, a much more natural-looking hair transplant result is achieved. After the transplantation process is completed, the donor area from which the roots were taken is covered with a dressing. Since local anesthesia is applied in this technique, no pain is felt. Additionally, since there is no incision on the skin after the transplantation of hair follicles, it does not require stitches. The biggest advantages of this technique are: minimal scarring with minimal trauma to the scalp, fast recovery time, and no scars left. In addition, since the root grafts are placed in the natural direction of the hair growth, the result of the procedure is a completely natural appearance.
Am I a suitable candidate for Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation can be performed for reasons such as genetic hair loss, hair loss resulting from burns or injuries, sparse hair or regional absence of hair for various reasons, or it can be performed on any patient who is approved by the physician for reasons deemed appropriate after examination. Whether the patient who comes to our office is suitable for hair transplantation is investigated through the necessary examination, detailed analysis and tests. After it is determined that there is no metabolic or systemic problem as a result of the tests, the area where the hair follicles will be taken is examined. If it is determined that the candidate has sufficient follicles as a result of the examination, the treatment method is determined according to the type of hair loss. There is no age restriction for hair transplantation. Hair transplantation is a permanent method and a surgical method that provides a definitive solution to the treatment of hair problems.
What should be done before hair transplantation?
First of all, every patient who will undergo hair transplantation is informed in detail by the physician about all indications, complications and possible possibilities. If the patient has any chronic disease or continuous medication use, detailed information is given by the physician before the application and a personalized treatment plan is made. In patients who are approved after these stages, the hair should be clean and washed before the procedure, and chemical-containing mixtures such as gel, hair spray, hair solution should not be applied.
What should be done after hair transplantation?
Although redness, wounds or crusts are usually observed on the skin in the days after hair transplantation, this is completely natural. In order to prevent crusting, information is given about how to wash and care for the hair according to the instructions given by the doctor. 2 days after the operation, the person can return to a completely normal life. At the end of the procedure, the scalp recovers very quickly and the transplanted area usually heals within 10 days. The hair reaching a size that covers the sparse or balding skin is different for each patient, and the average time is eight to twelve months after hair transplantation. From the time the hair first begins to grow until now, it gradually becomes thicker and approaches the thickness of the hair in the removed area. Hair that reaches normal hair thickness does not require special care. Applications such as cutting, washing, shaping and painting can be done. At the same time, the transplanted hair does not fall out due to the transplantation procedure, does not have a certain holding period and lives healthy for a lifetime.
Does Hair Transplantation damage healthy hair?
As long as the hair transplantation is performed by a specialist and experienced physician or team in a sterile hygienic office, other areas of the scalp will not be damaged after the procedure and the procedure does not have any side effects.
